April 2009

There was an article in the Boston Globe earlier this week about what you can plant here in New England during early Spring. After reading it, I hopped online and ordered some chioggia beet, red oak lettuce and cherry belle radish seeds. With any luck, we should have some sprouts by next weekend and should see some of this early season crop on our plates by next month!

It looks as though the Easter Bunny has brought us some

more food choices for the Spring! At the market yesterday, there were a bunch of early Spring greens available…I picked up some sunflower, pea and buckwheat shoots to make a shoot salad which was paired with some braised short ribs, also from a farm here in Rhode Island. It looks like we’re off to a good start so far…and it’s only going to get better. The local markets will be opening up soon…the one near us will open on May 1st. We’re also going to try an early season crop of vegetables…I ordered up some pea, beet, radish and lettuce seeds to plant in our garden which we worked on getting ready today…Spring is here!
