We had a little gingerbread and frosting left so I decided to bake them all off and Josh helped me decorate them for some friends.  There’s an overview of most of the cookies and then two of Josh’s best!  The man is supposed to look like a fish – the new (edible) abstract art?

Can you guess which one is trying out for Blue Man Group?

This year’s gingerbread extravaganza centered around Ingrid’s parents and their trip to Yellowstone. For the past couple of years, we’ve been offering up a gingerbread “spoof” of an event that has happened to them during the preceeding year. This year, they dropped off their dog Franklin here in RI and took off for the open road with the final destination being Yellowstone out in Wyoming. Here is what we depicted in gingerbread- presented to them on Christmas Day…the final product is at the end of the photo string:

Since moving to Rhode Island, Josh and I have started a few new traditions.  The first one is that Josh cooks me a fabulous, amazing meal on December 24th – it’s just the two of us and in the past two years, it has taken us 4-5 hours to get through the whole meal.  We take our time, Josh does the cooking and I do the cleaning (trust me – it works better this way) and we just enjoy!  The second one is that Josh and I make a gingerbread “house” for my parents.  The first year we did a casino – complete with a poker table and a Lucky 7′s slot machine.  Last year we made my dad’s red truck full of gingerbread trees.  We always get Franklin, their dog in there and some other details.  Like the Thanksgiving meal, we don’t tell anyone what we are making and it’s a surprise when we arrive.

This is our kitchen right now – or I should say about 10 minutes ago.  You can see pieces of what will become part of my dinner (which is also a surprise – all I know is that there is some type of agnolotti) or part of the gingerbread “house”.  The kitchen will not look like this in about 5 hours but that’s the fun of it!  We’ll keep you posted on what comes out of this kitchen over the next few days.
