Things have been off to a slow start this Spring in regards to our backyard vegetables. The cloudy and cool weather has been hampering our early season growing- our peas and radishes were supposed to be ready a few weeks ago. We did manage to gather enough to supplement last nights meal, however. The radishes were nice and crisp with a little spice to them. They were a little on the small side, but were a welcome addition to our salad. The peas were terrific, sautéed in a little butter which went well with their sweetness. Now all we need is a little sun to move the rest of our veggies along!

There is finally some activity out in our garden (unlike this blog recently…or the Red Sox!)…the radishes which we planted in our raised bed three weeks ago have broken ground and are starting reach skyward. Hopefully winter has finally left and we can get on with Spring for good…now what to do with those Sox (and we’ll promise to post more!) ?

After last week’s historic rains here in Rhode Island stopped and the flood waters started to recede (we were lucky- no damage here) the sun finally came out and things started to get back to “normal”. With just a couple days of sun, things started happening around our yard…the radishes we put in a couple of weeks ago broke ground, the hops started to climb and the forsythia has burst into an explosion of yellow…and for those of you awaiting the Easter Bunny, we hope he delivers and that everyone gets to enjoy their day!
